Open Window School

Who enjoys a three hour bus ride? Enthusiastic students from Bellevue’s Open Window School that’s who! A group of 31 excited sixth graders came to Northwest Maritime Center on June 10th for a day of hands-on learning and hours of enjoying each other’s company during the bus ride.

Students rotated through land and dock based stations to study marine science and water quality, take soundings, and try their hand at knot tying and heaving line throwing. The week after the program, NWMC instructors engaged in a follow up session via zoom. Students had fond memories of seeing otters and plankton and playing on the beach. They also studied their group data set; making observations, drawing conclusions, and asking questions for further investigation. Hands on science + outdoor learning = success!
