First thing first. Why race in WA360?
Because you’re doing this and not the R2AK this year. Although not the R2AK this is a tough challenge and a will be a good extended test to test the modifications I’ve made to my boat since my last attempt to complete the R2AK.

What’s your connection to these waters?
At least the northern part of these waters I would consider my home waters. I’ve been through
Deception Pass multiple times and have made trips to the San Juan Islands and Point Roberts while training for the R2AK.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
That’s easy. This little boat was made for solo adventuring. It may not be the fastest at anything, but it’s made to do it all with a good reliable pedal drive system when the wind isn’t cooperating, and it sails well when it is.

What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
I’ve had two and a half unsuccessful attempts to complete the R2AK. That should count for something. I also spent 20 years in the Navy, but really didn’t do much to help with this adventure. I have been an outdoor person for most of my life. I’ve done multiple back country solo pack in hunting trips with pretty limited gear. Again with the exception of learning what and how to pack for extended trips this doesn’t help much with this adventure. My biggest experiences I’ve gained was in my time prepping for and participating in the R2AK. I didn’t finish on my last attempt but I gained a lot of experience and found a few problems with the design changes I built into the boat I built for the race. I did have a 288-mile maiden voyage on a boat that was launched for the first time 30 minutes before the race started.

What is going to break?
The solo record!
