Get to know Team Hold Fast

First thing first. Why race in WA360?
It’s a next level challenge that will push us mentally and physically – what’s not to love about a bit of self-inflicted type-2 fun?

What’s your connection to these waters?
Our crew are all transplants to the PNW. Ruby and Sophie both moved here a few years ago. Ruby, a born East Coast sailor, has grown to love the Puget sound and all the adventures one can have with all the islands and places to sail to. Marjory has done some real connecting with these waters as she’s already completed R2AK and is looking for another Puget sound race to add to her resume.

Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Ruby’s a resilient and flexible person, who always perseveres in getting things done but when a roadblock comes is especially good at figuring out ways around it.

Sophie is a curious engineer who’s attention to detail drives her ability to learn things quickly and dive deep into projects.

Marjory has self–proclaimed that her superpower is “having no superpowers.” Meaning though her adventure resume is exhaustive she remains humble and reticent when it comes to endeavors. She’s a realist and helps in being the one that keeps everyone on track.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
This team came about because Ruby wanted to buy a new sailboat. It’s a sturdy mid-sized boat that Ruby wants to make into something worthy of any adventure race (hopefully R2AK 2026). It’ll be fitted with a pedal-drive system and sails, a classic kind of vessel for this race. The team is proud to have put 4 cup holders in the cockpit area which is 3 more than what Ruby has in her 1996 Rav4.

What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
Ruby is a passionate sailor who’s love for endurance based sports has equipped her with the ability to manage both mentally and physically tasking ventures. Sophie is a midwest girl with the positive attitude to match, she’s incredibly smart and has the will to commit to this race without any prior big sailing experience. Marjory has already done the R2AK and has an adventure resume that one could only dream of doing in even half a lifetime. We are three women who are dedicated to the preparation and committed to finishing the race.

What is going to break?
We hope nothing but if it has to be something let it be something on the boat rather than our spirits breaking.
