Get to know Team Cinderella Story
First thing first. Why race in WA360?
We were inspired by my wife and Hazel’s mom during the 2024 R2AK (Team Sail Like a Mother). We can’t let her outdo us! Also, I can’t wait to have such an adventure with my 14 year old kid. That’s a priceless opportunity.
What’s your connection to these waters?
We live on Bellingham Bay and watch the wind and waves every day. We’ve both grown up here and have learned to sail in these waters. Nearly every time I’m on the water (which is often), there is a time limit or a schedule for getting back to the dock on time. I am so excited to be out exploring, going as fast as we can while still being present. I look forward to the ability to just be on the water.
Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Hazel – Resiliency and ability to joyfully suffer. Hazel has grown up in a family that celebrates getting through the cold, wet, tired and uncomfortable aspects of a fun life. This kid maintains a smile on their face in some pretty trying situations.
Craig – Ability to fix gosh darn nearly anything.
Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
The Olson 25 is lighweight, good-looking, comfortable and fast – just like it’s crew members.
What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
Hazel loves sailing and has been putting in the time and energy for the past 3 years. They live for sailing with their middle school team and summer Laser team. They’ve been a capable solo dinghy sailor since 5th grade. This kid thrives on adventure and wants to be outside, in nature all the time. I have been cruising and racing for 30 years, everything from dinghy sailing in Bellingham Bay to cross-Pacific races.
