Today is March 1st and we had a lot to decide on today. First of all, it was the day students were asked to commit to going on our journey in May. Fortunately, we have a large crew returning and most of them are coming on the journey!
After making a list of those committed, we looked at some photos of last year’s journey and told some stories about the trip. We then brainstormed ideas about what we would need to do in the weeks ahead in order to be ready.
March 1st was also the date we needed to decide on colors for our Bravo Team sweatshirts. After several rounds of democratic process the group was evenly tied between Irish Green and Helliconia. We decided to table to decision until next week when hopefully all of our students would be in class.
The weather was posted as a small craft advisory, which meant that we couldn’t go out it the long boats. Instead we took a walk to the point for our snack break, moment of silence, and Hunter’s Salish Sea report on the health of our local orcas.
Then it was back to class and down to business on our environmental project–creating a film about plastic straws. We split up into four groups: writers, researchers, story boarders, and illustration. The small groups worked together on their sections and also consulted with other groups for the information they needed in order to see how their work comes together. We also used shared google docs so that everyone could work on the same project and easily see the work of others.
We were all really excited about making some progress on our project. As Chance said, “It was really nice to be in busy room with lots of work happening, kind of like in that movie The Post.” Stay tuned to see what these creative minds have come up with.
