Back Aboard Townshend

We got out on the longboat Townshend for the first time this year. We had a light wind day and more students, so we thought we’d get back to our usual vessel. Townshend is the longboat we will help maintain this winter and also hope to use for an overnight journey at the end of

Halloween Sail

Some of us showed up in costume today, although it was hard to tell under all our warm layers! It was a rare day to have sunshine and light wind on Halloween. A great day to go on a mini journey. Bravo Team was ready for a longer time aboard Onward putting our stamina to

Science on the Water

It was a still day on the water and a great chance to do some science sampling. After getting to know the science gear last week, students were ready to use the equipment aboard Onward. Journey is 10 days Away!

Bravo Team has been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming overnight journey on May 6-7. We started the day by reviewing the tenet “Boat, Crew, Self” as a way of framing the journey. We’ll need to always take care of the boat and keep it safe, so we have a boat to journey on.

The Joy of Rowing Hard

Townshend is in great shape and we hit the bay ready to row after snowpocolypse finally let up. We were all happy to get out on the water again with several new team members to train up! It was a cold day but we layered up and practiced our power strokes to keep warm. A

Wild Waves for the Last Class of 2019

Our last class of the year happened to be on the craziest wildest wind storm we’ve seen around here in a while. Waves were crashing up in the commons at NWMC at a very high tide. It was a great opportunity for learning about wind observation and practicing our Beaufort Scale skills to estimate wind

December Sunshine

We welcomed the opportunity to be out on this beautiful sunny December day. It was completely clear with snowy mountain peaks, harbor seals, glistening water and light wind. Onward glided over the water with our powerful strokes and competent leadership from our Coxswain of the week, Trinity! Today we explored the shallows between Point Hudson
