New Year, New Hotel: The Swan Joins the NWMC Family!

Kelsey BrennerAll, Announcements

Happy New Year! We bought a hotel!

You probably already know, as we announced our intentions back in June, that the future of our growing campus includes the Swan Hotel—a 13-room boutique hotel located across the street from our main campus. Well, we’re excited to announce that the purchase has officially closed! As of December 31, the Swan has joined the Northwest Maritime Center family and the five existing Swan staff members have been welcomed to our NWMC team!

The hotel will continue to operate as usual for the foreseeable future to help us better connect our maritime programs with available lodging. Our program staff is already retooling some of our offerings to encourage more “Stay and Learn” style programming! In addition, revenue generated from the hotel will help support all of our educational opportunities at the Maritime Center.

To further incorporate the Swan’s operations into the NWMC mothership, later this year we’ll be starting on some renovations to turn our existing retail space into more of a visitor and registration center for hotel guests and class attendees alike. We’ll also be adding some wayfinding and interpretation to better convey our mission.

Stay tuned for future updates involving The Swan! We look forward to the integration of our newly expanded campus and the generation of more activity, especially in the off-season, for the betterment of the Maritime Center, our maritime mission, and Port Townsend as a whole.

Here’s to a New Year full of new adventures and opportunities!
