Getting Ready for A Season on the Water

Spring is here, and the season is getting underway on the water. Our seasonal staff recently wrapped up training, covering everything from risk management to setting up the pilot house simulator, Longboat practice, and a capsize drill aboard Townshend. The floating docks are going in, and the first Maritime Discovery Program of the year begins next week.

Training is a core part of our work. Instructors continue to build upon their skills through regular, hands-on practice. That includes towing, person-overboard recovery, boat handling, and clear communication. The goal is simple: be ready and capable in real conditions, not just in theory.

As programs begin, that preparation carries through to every experience on the water. Whether someone is stepping aboard for the first time or returning with more experience, the focus remains on steady, practiced instruction and a safe, supportive environment.
