Introducing the Duckworks Scout Camp at Northwest Maritime—a new offering for 2025! This hands-on workshop, guided by our expert Boatshop Manager, offers participants the opportunity to construct either a Scout 10 or Scout 14 boat. Both models promise high performance and family-friendly fun, combining modern design with classic craftsmanship. Whether you’re a seasoned boatbuilder or new to the craft, this immersive experience provides the perfect opportunity to learn, create, and row (or sail) away with a beautiful boat that you built yourself.
This class includes tuition, kit, and shipping and takes place in the Northwest Maritime Boatshop. The construction portion of the class will take place from April 21–May 2 and will be held 9 AM–5 PM each day with a two-day break for the weekend. For builders looking to move their boats through the final phases of completion, you will have the option to keep the vessel in the shop and have access to tools and instruction to get the boat prepared for and implement final finishes such as paint and varnish.
SPECIFICATIONS:

Beam 50″
Draft 4 1/2″
Capacity 2-3 people
Weight 65 to 75 lbs
As the ultimate mini beach-cruiser, Scout features modern NACA profile, high-performance. foam-core rudder and off-daggerboard. After more testing we’ve settled on a reefable 60 square-foot sail for Scout—the sweet spot for performance and manageability. At only 65 pounds, with her buoyant hull and thoughtful lines, Scout is also an effortless row. And having listed all of these virtues, we’ve failed to mention Scout’s obvious suitability as a lightweight rowing-only tender. She would also make an excellent youth sailboat trainer (and/or building project).
SPECIFICATIONS:
LOA 14’
Beam 50″
Draft 4″
Capacity 2-3 people
Weight 90 to 100 lbs
The newest kit offering from our good friends at Duckworks. At 14′, the boat sails like a dream, rows without effort, and—at 95 ish pounds—you are going to have a hard time coming up with an excuse not to build this dream of a vessel. The Scouts are the brain-child of Port Townsend locals Brandon Davis of Turnpoint Design and Josh Colvin of Small Craft Advisor. This design gives the builder a fast, efficient, and ultra-light vessel that the whole family can enjoy.
Using the stitch-and-glue build technique, the boat is built using marine-ply and closed-cell foam parts that are precision cut on a CNC machine. We have also added a foam core deck, gunnel, and transom that trims weight and adds durability. This is a turn-key build; the kit includes all the materials needed to complete the build, the daggerboard and rudder kits, all hardware to rig the boat, as well as mast and sail.
