First thing first. Why race in WA360?
The WA360 is an adventure to live and great event in a year absent of the R2AK. The Puget Sound is a winding snake of currents and tides, and challenging water topography, one that tests your skills and patients, etc. This will be the first time we sail and muscle power our way through the Puget Sound, and adventure we very much want to experience.

What’s your connection to these waters?
I (Miles Moore) grew up in Westport WA, sailing on the Pacific, Grays Harbor and Willapa Bay. Corine Moore, my wife and crew have sailed with me since Westport. I (Miles Moore) have sailed on the Puget Sound a few times and Corine has never. Our real connection to the Sound will be this event.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
The Malbec18 is the coolest little 18′ sportboat. It sails well we feel all conditions within reason. It’s durable, light, and has a cabin (yeah baby). If it gets a hole through the hull, it will not sink, nice! We had considered sailing a boat without a cabin, yeah but no. We feel this is the perfect small sailboat for this race and the R2AK, as it’s easy to muscle power, yet again sails well.

What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
I, Miles Moore have been on many endurance adventures cycling 422 miles in one day, many solo endurance cycling trips; Surf sailing my Hobie 14 & 16 off Westport beach and at Leadbetter Point Willapa Bay. Many bar crossings on my sailboat and as a deckhand on charter boats; Have done many sailing camping trips solo, with my wife (Corine), and kids aboard Hobie cats and small trailerable sportboat sailboats. There is more but this gives one a good taste of my experience.

What is going to break?
Anything we can imagine and have not imagined can break. We plan to have back up rigging, lines, and parts like we do with all our adventures. One can plan for breakage but sometimes it takes ingenuity to overcome, and we are creative. We are all about safety and no race and/or adventure is worth sacrificing one’s life. The best adventures are the ones you live to tell about.
