First thing first. Why race in WA360?
Why race in the WA360? Because the promo video we saw said not to.

But really because it’s like a mashup between a trail ultra, adventure race, expedition, and a cruise and we just can’t help ourselves. No handicaps, no pinkies out, just a fun race-tour of Washington’s saltwater.

What’s your connection to these waters?
Only one of our crew is a Washington native. Most of the rest are happy transplants who came to Washington and just can’t imagine living anywhere else now. Plus two brothers who are coming because someone has to paddle.

Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Greg (skipper) – NapNinja, can sleep anywhere, anytime.
Marlisa – Disco, has hot moves and can dance well enough to propel the boat in the doldrums
Jenny – CreamCrusader, can apply sunscreen even to reluctant humans
Scott – The most interesting man in the world. Has been everywhere and done everything. He has stories upon stories and his superpower is that whatever it is, he’s already done it.
Doug – Doug. His superpower is being Doug.
Jeremy – Minuty Duty, can turn saltwater into Minuty.
Chris – Gearhead, can jury-rig any piece of gear that fails, unless it’s the head
Andy – The machine, always calm, never tires. Andy is like a steam engine.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
Can it be considered a choice if you only have one vessel to choose from? Afterglow is a pretty special vessel though. She’s a young gal, and will have had water under her keel for a mere 3 months when the race starts. One thing that’s unique about Afterglow is that she’s fully electric, with no combustible fuel onboard (not that it matters too much during the race).

What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
Our WA360 team is a diverse, easygoing bunch with a wide range of skills and experiences that promise a fun, lively race. We’ve sailed Puget Sound races, captained boats in the Caribbean, and Scott has even taught Coast Guard and Navy SAR and water survival courses. We’re not just sailors though, we’re climbers, bikers, racer car drivers, doctors, teachers, burners, and so many other things. We have three rules on our team:
1) Always look cool
2) Don’t fall off the boat
3) If you fall off the boat, adhere to rule #1

What is going to break?
With 8 crew on board and knowing the absolute worst piece of gear to fail is what will fail, surely our head is going to break before the race is done. We’ll bring a backup bucket.
