First thing first. Why race in WA360?
Because it’s there and I’m here – one of us is in the wrong place! If it won’t come to me, I must come to it. Besides, it’s great training for the R2AK.

“How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
To rust unburnish’d, not to shine in use!”

What’s your connection to these waters?
I fall in a lot. On purpose, mostly. It’s a reliable connection.

I’ve always been drawn to the water. Whenever I move somewhere new, and I’ve done that far too often, I study the water. Great Lakes, Atlantic, Mississippi River, Salt Lake, and now Puget Sound. I’ve wanted to sail for at least a lifetime, maybe several. So when I found myself at the Wooden Boat Festival during a three-check month, I bought a small sailboat and sailed it back to Olympia, then back to PT for the start of the 2024 R2AK, then back to Olympia again.

Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Modeling. I visualize how the air flows over the sails and the water over the keel. The forces play in my head as they play on the boat. The waves take form and pattern. When I’m not sailing (or working) I pose for artists with sword in hand and naught else.

What is going to break?
The main cars still act up. Anything else may, as well. The Dolprop? That remains to be seen.

The keel, like my will, will hold.
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
