Get to know Team Never Get Off the Boat

First thing first. Why race in WA360?
Because it’s there; although we’re not all there. Also, most of us did this race in 2021 together and we want more Salish! It was a wonderful odyssey involving rounding Olympia Shoal just behind a single kayak competitor, along with sailboat racing through farmland (Swinomish Slough).

What’s your connection to these waters?
83.3% of us have spent decades sailing boats large and small, and swimming, and fishing, and paddling, and pedaling, and floating in and on the Salish and can’t get enough. (For clarity, 16.7% of us is kinda too young to have spent actual decades at it.)

Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Mark: Fixes stuff and takes nothing seriously. Except safety. Safety is third.
Bev: The Spinnaker Whisperer. Other boats go backwards when Bev is trimming our kite.
Jim: His spidey powers are quite useful on the bow.
Brian: Pedaling and helming while asleep. Sometimes at the same time.
Jesse: “Look, it’s Bicycle Repair Man!” And he’s got thighs of steel. Both are important for pedaling a heavy sailboat around.
Lydia: She can sleep anywhere at any time! This enables her to keep her head about her when the other sleep deprived souls are losing theirs.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
She’s 1/1 for WA360’s so far; and she’s got curtains. And two pedal drives instead of one for twice the “horse”power.
“Never get out of the boat. Absolutely g’damn right. Unless you’re goin’ all the way… Kurtz got off the boat. He split from the whole f’n program.” … Kurtz wouldn’t have gotten off of this boat.

What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
Because we’ll never give up; and, of course, will never get off the boat.

What is going to break?
The Fun-o-Meter, because it only goes to 11.
