Get to know Team Hold Fast

First thing first. Why race in WA360?
It will give us the opportunity to race together as a team. To understand challenges in a slightly more forgivable environment than R2AK (Our ultimate goal). To test some propulsion systems. To endure.

What’s your connection to these waters?
We all as individuals have sailed these waters collectively for over 100 years! It’s our home. I race captain Clark live at Point No Point, we are all drawn to these waters as sailors, divers, adventurers, and in Ryan’s case MSAR.

Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Bruce: 100 Ton Captain, numerous trips in various boats up and down the west coast, High School sailing Coach, ambassador of sailing.
Ryan: Middle School sailing coach, active MSAR on Whidbey Island
Jeff: Super adventurer, Multiple High Summit Climbs, long distance rides, High School Sailing coach.
Clark: The ability to bring all these dudes together. Lived on a sailboat while rebuilding her, raced in over 100 races including offshore, scuba certified.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
Our Tartan 10 is a proven Great Lakes racer in mind bending conditions. She is a proven race winner, well beyond her class. We will have the entire Great Lakes Fleet cheering us on exposing a whole new audience to these endurance races.

What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
3 of us are old,(er) experienced sailors, we have logged thousand and thousands of hours on the water under sail. We (collectively)have climbed Rainier and numerous peaks, hunted for days on mules in deep wilderness, rode bikes for thousands of miles, thru-hiked for days, logged several hundred scuba dives, hiked through deep Central American jungle, fished remotes regions of Alaska, and volunteer for the ongoing adventure of Marine Search and Rescue.

What is going to break?
Sails. Possibly our rudder, we plan to have spares. In the case of stays we have bolt/wire cutters if it goes really bad.
