First thing first. Why race in WA360?
We have a history of adventure in our family going back generations. Peter’s grandma was an open water swimmer at an early age in Norway. As a teenager, Peter built a wooden canoe with his dad. This is an experience that Peter always wanted to recreate with his kids. Covid lockdown was the opportunity for that to happen and we built a cedar strip canoe. We raced it in the Seventy48 in ’21, ’22, and ’23. Doing something on a bigger scale is something we started thinking about at that time. The time is now.

What’s your connection to these waters?
Having grown up in the PNW near the water we always spent lots of time on the beach, in the water, exploring and adventuring. We are both lifelong skiers and there’s a connection between the mountains and ocean that has always been alluring.

Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
While on the Pacific Crest Trail Peter was given the trail name “Spotter” for his ability to see things before anyone else. This holds true on the water. He is always first to notice birds, seals, porpoises and landmarks.

David’s super power is the ability to communicate. That could be talking with the seal at our local dock or visiting with the kite boarders on a windy day to discover what app the use to track and predict the wind.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
After many clicks on the computer we determined that the Seaward Passat G3 is a fast, seaworthy boat that we could probably find in the greater Seattle area. It is cool because it has yellow accents. It has a storied history in races like the Yukon 1000 river race and R2AK. We have replaced all of the rigging and steering hardware.
