Townshend is back in the water after a month of loving care, but alas, we were kept on land by a small craft advisory. Teambuilding, birdwatching and environmental project planning were on our agenda.
Our teambuilding activity got the crew working together to solve the challenge of how to make the shape of a square with a rope they were holding onto while blindfolded. We had a honest and fruitful debrief at the end. It highlighted some things we do really well: listening to and sharing ideas and perserverance! It also brought up some things we want to work on: focusing on one leader and staying engaged even when an activity doesn’t feel relevant.
Birdwatching and walking to the beach at Point Hudson was a highlight of the day. There were about 100 Black Brants on the beach and in the water looking for eelgrass and other plant life to eat. It was enlivening to be outside and feeling the weather change into the westerly stong wind that the small craft advisory was posted for.
Work continued on our environmental project. We have narrowed down our plans into a problem statement: How can we as the Bravo Team work towards implementing a plastic straw ban so that we can do our part in saving the oceans? We have some great ideas about this including a making a short documentary, showing a new movie called STRAWS and talking to the city council about getting a straw ban to happen. Stay tuned for our progress next week!
