Other Ways to Give
Learn more about the ways you can support the Northwest Maritime Center today and in the future
"We've been happy to contribute over the years to the amazing activities and the mission of the Northwest Maritime Center. As we were planning our estate, we both decided that after we’ve ‘shuffled off this mortal coil’, how wonderful it would be if we could continue to support the organization."
—Anne & Bob Cameron, Maritime Legacy Circle Members

Give from Your IRA
Give today or plan a gift for the future
If you turned 72 in 2022 or earlier, you can make a contribution of up to $100,000 directly from a traditional IRA to your charitable causes. The transfer is tax-free and can help satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD).
Information to give your custodian:
Northwest Maritime Center
431 Water Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368
FEIN: 91-1931643
You can also request to receive your own checkbook for your IRA account. That way, you can write and send the check yourself, and your gift would still be an eligible RMD.
The Northwest Maritime Center does not give tax or legal advice to donors. Please consult your professional financial advisor before making this type or charitable gift.

Bequests & Living Trusts
Plan a gift for the future
You can include the Northwest Maritime Center in a trust, will, or other estate plans. You can make a bequest to the NWMC through a simple amendment if you already have a will, or name the NWMC as a beneficiary in your trust. You retain full control of your assets during your lifetime while knowing that your gift will have a lasting impact.
Please consult a lawyer regarding the specifics of your estate and how your will or trust should be worded to best communicate your wishes. You can, however, use this basic language to include the NWMC in your estate document:
*I give to the Northwest Maritime Center, a nonprofit organization with federal tax ID number 91-1931643 and located in Port Townsend, Washington, ___% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate.*

Charitable Remainder Trusts
Plan a gift for the future
Reduce your taxes, provide a potential income stream for yourself and loved ones, and support the mission of your favorite charity or charities: you can accomplish all three through a charitable remainder trust (CRT). A CRT is an irrevocable trust designed to reduce your taxable income by first dispersing income to your beneficiaries for a specified period of time, and then donating the remainder of the trust to your designated charitable organization(s).
*Please consult your professional financial advisor about setting up a charitable remainder trust.*

Insurance Policies
Plan a gift for the future
You may have a life insurance policy that you took out years ago for specific purposes but no longer need today. In this case, you could designate the Northwest Maritime Center as the beneficiary of that policy.
An easy way to make a larger gift over time is to make a gift of a new policy for charitable purposes, which would also give you an income tax deduction. In addition, future premium payments will be tax-deductible.
Please consult your insurance agent or financial advisor about the various ways you can use insurance policies to meet your charitable giving goals.

Financial Accounts
Plan a gift for the future
You can designate the Northwest Maritime Center as a payable on death beneficiary of a CD, savings account, brokerage account, etc. Often this is simply a form you fill out; speak with the manager at your financial institution. These gifts are revocable during life.

Give In-Kind

Donate Your Boat
When you donate your boat, it will be sold to raise funds to support our activities. You get a tax deduction, and programs that connect people to the water are all the better for your generosity.
Donate Used Boat Hardware
Donate your used boat hardware to the Marine Thrift. You get a tax deduction, boaters get amazing deals, and we all do our part to reduce the waste stream.
Contribute to Our Library
Nautical books, charts, magazines, and journals may find new life on the shelves of the H.W. McCurdy Library and in the hands of avid readers of all things nautical. Our collection is a public service to our community: the McCurdy Library is part of the Cooperative Libraries of the Eastern Olympics.
