Rules of the Road & Aids to Navigation – Online

Lights, sounds, right of way: know the rules! Who has the right of way? Where’s the channel? By the end of this class, you’ll understand the maneuvering rules, lights, sound signals, and buoys that allow us to navigate confidently and safely around hazards and other vessels.

We will guide you through the rules of the road, rights of the way, and responsibilities between vessels, so you can gain an understanding of the protocols crucial for safe navigation. Our instructor will explain the concepts of luminous and geographic range, lighting, and buoy positioning. We will examine various scenarios such as overtaking, crossing, and collision avoidance with practical, real-world examples.

This class will help you to master the rules governing vessel interaction, empowering yourself with the knowledge to navigate confidently while upholding maritime rules and safety standards.
