Pathways Evolve at Maritime High School

Based on four years of Maritime High School program implementation and outcomes from our first graduating class, Northwest Maritime is working in close partnership with Maritime High School to refine and strengthen the maritime pathways. One exciting evolution is beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, students in the Vessel Operations Pathway will complete their general instruction on the Maritime High School campus rather than off-site. Students will continue to earn industry-recognized credentials while benefiting from a more integrated deck and engine pathway, expanded on-campus skill development, and intentional, hands-on on-water industry experiences.

By focusing off-campus learning on training vessels, credentialing, and industry engagement, these updates support a more connected high school experience and a stronger sense of belonging for students. Together, these adjustments better align learning with workforce expectations and academic progress, creating clearer, more stable pathways into maritime careers or postsecondary maritime education—including continued study at Seattle Maritime Academy. MHS continues to prioritize compelling maritime education and powerful student experiences for all our learners.
