Get to know Team Rogue Kayaker
First thing first. Why race in WA360?
Having finished Seventy48 a couple times I have some idea of what I am in for. I have discovered that my favorite type of fun is type 2 fun, so you are offering 360 miles of type 2 fun to a junkie.
What’s your connection to these waters?
I grew up along the Strait of Juan De Fuca and learned to kayak there. I live in Tacoma now and am still kayaking.
Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Anyone who knows comic lore knows that there is an Achilles’ heel for every superpower. My superpower and Achilles’ heel are the same: ADHD. I can hyperfocus on a problem and power through with superhuman endurance to get it solved. But if you can’t catch my interest, I will wander off and go Rogue with surprising speed.
Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
It is an expedition sea kayak; another of the same design was used to paddle solo from Ketchikan to the coast of Washington
What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
I do a lot of long distance paddling. I’ve done this race called Seventy48 (maybe you’ve heard of it) every time it has been run and have finished twice.
What is going to break?
I hope nothing, but if something does break, there is a good chance I am prepared. I have patches for my drysuit, tent, and kayak. I have spare parts for my hatches and a set of emergency tools.
