Get to know Team Poles

First thing first. Why race in WA360?
Thought this would be a good pleasure cruise. We have a boat, there is a race; why not? Also, seems a lot easier than the R2AK.

What’s your connection to these waters?
Oliver sails out of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club every summer with the junior sailing program. Amazon, our current boat and previously Swallow, a sailing dory have made it down every year to the coast to cruise Oak Bay and area when Oliver and his sister are sailing. Besides that, we drove by Seattle once.

Superpowers. Each crew member gets one. What are they and why?
Hawk Eyes, Maciej. I can see everything.
Oliver can drink salt water, although it may be a fleeting power.

Defend your vessel choice for WA360. What makes it so cool and worthy?
Amazon is light, stable and purpose designed with camping and sailing in mind. The boat can be sailed cat rigged, or powered up with various sail options. There are sweeps, although no one likes using them. Maybe we will have a pedal drive. The boat is fun to sail, we are on a pleasure cruise after all.

What are your adventure qualifications for WA360? What makes you (y’all) cool and capable?
We have been sailing and camping on Amazon for the last 3 years as a family of four, sometimes with out dog. We cook, sleep and live on the boat for extended periods. Previously we did the same with a 18′ dory, until the kids and the dog got too big. We spent 3 years based out of Miami on our 46′ sloop, and cruised the Bahamas. We live in a small town in the Kootenay Mountains, adventures are to be had daily and in every season. We are used to adventuring and discovering new ways of having fun in sometimes demanding circumstances.

What is going to break?
Nothing, we are pretty confident in the boat.
