March 16–April 10, 2026 | 9 AM–5 PM | Cost: $1,099 (non-member)/$1,029 (member) per two-week block or $1,949 (non-member)/$1,879 (member) per month
Description:
Have a boat project you’ve been dreaming about but don’t have the space, tools, or expertise to make it happen?
The Community Boatshop at Northwest Maritime invites boatbuilders of all experience levels to bring their boat dreams to life over the course of a month-long, shop-supported residency. Whether you’re assembling a kit boat, restoring a well-loved vessel, or starting a new build from scratch, this program gives you the dedicated time, space, and professional guidance to get you started. Our fully equipped Boatshop offers a broad range of hand tools, power tools, and specialty equipment. Experienced instructors will be on hand to answer questions, demonstrate techniques, and help troubleshoot challenges along the way.
Popular with kit boat builders, this program is ideal for folks looking to work independently while still having access to expert support and a collaborative environment. You’ll have the chance to work alongside other builders—swapping ideas, sharing progress, and learning from a community of passionate craftspeople. The shop is designed to accommodate a variety of project types and sizes. Whether you’re back to finish a job, building a kit, replacing planks, or finally adding that perfect bronze fitting, the Community Boatshop offers both the structure and flexibility to enjoy the process. It’s not just about building boats, it’s about building skills, connections, and confidence. Come with your plans, leave with your boat (at least, a much more complete one).
Spanning four weeks, this workshop provides more time and flexibility than typical classes, ensuring you have ample opportunity to use the space, tools, and expert instruction required for a successful build. You can choose between two 2-week blocks or commit to the full 4-week program.
Cost covers tuition only. Ask the Registrar about special shipping options before ordering your kit.
