"We've been happy to contribute over the years to the amazing activities and the mission of the Northwest Maritime Center. As we were planning our estate, we both decided that after we’ve ‘shuffled off this mortal coil’, how wonderful it would be if we could continue to support the organization."
—Anne & Bob Cameron, Maritime Legacy Circle Members

Bequests & Living Trusts

You can include the Northwest Maritime Center in a trust, will, or other estate plans. You can make a bequest to the NWMC through a simple amendment if you already have a will, or name the NWMC as a beneficiary in your trust. You retain full control of your assets during your lifetime while knowing that your gift will have a lasting impact.

Please consult a lawyer regarding the specifics of your estate and how your will or trust should be worded to best communicate your wishes. You can, however, use this basic language to include the NWMC in your estate document:

*I give to the Northwest Maritime Center, a nonprofit organization with federal tax ID number 91-1931643 and located in Port Townsend, Washington, ___% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate.*

Northwest Maritime Center (FEIN # 91-1931643) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and your contribution may therefore be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Magnify the impact of your gift while supporting powerful maritime experiences by donating stocks or other assets that (a) have gone up in value and (b) you’ve owned more than 12 months.

Information to give your broker:

Investment Firm Name: Gale Investment Management
Firm Mailing Address: 425 Washington St., Port Townsend, WA 98368
Firm Contact Name, Number, and Email: Stephanie Gale, 360.385.5044, stephanie@galeim.com
Account Title: Northwest Maritime Center
Account Number: 0QF364541
DTC Number: 0226
NWMC Tax ID Number: 91-1931643

Don’t forget these two things:
  1. Remind your broker to include your name and contact information in the DTC comment field.
  2. Please alert us when you donate securities. It’s the only way we’ll know of your generous gift.

A note on valuation: The value of a gift of stock is the mean between the high and low stock price on the date the gift is made. The value of gifts of mutual fund shares is the fund’s closing price on the date the gift is made.

Northwest Maritime Center (FEIN # 91-1931643) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and your contribution may therefore be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Give from Your IRA

If you’re over 70½, you can direct your IRA custodian to make distributions of up to $100,000 directly to your charitable causes. Transfers are tax-free and can satisfy your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).

Information to give your custodian:

Northwest Maritime Center
431 Water Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368
FEIN: 91-1931643

You can also request to receive your own checkbook for your IRA account. That way, you can write and send the check yourself, and your gift would still be an eligible RMD.

The Northwest Maritime Center does not give tax or legal advice to donors. Please consult your professional financial advisor before making this type or charitable gift.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Reduce your taxes, provide a potential income stream for yourself and loved ones, and support the mission of your favorite charity or charities: you can accomplish all three through a charitable remainder trust (CRT). A CRT is an irrevocable trust designed to reduce your taxable income by first dispersing income to your beneficiaries for a specified period of time, and then donating the remainder of the trust to your designated charitable organization(s).

*Please consult your professional financial advisor about setting up a charitable remainder trust.*

Insurance Policies

You may have a life insurance policy that you took out years ago for specific purposes but no longer need today. In this case, you could designate the Northwest Maritime Center as the beneficiary of that policy. Better yet, you can transfer actual ownership of the policy to the organization.

An easy way to make a larger gift over time is to make a gift of a new policy for charitable purposes, which would also give you an income tax deduction. In addition, future premium payments will be tax-deductible.

Financial Accounts

You can designate the Northwest Maritime Center as a payable on death beneficiary of a CD, savings account, brokerage account, etc. Often this is a simply form you fill out; speak with the manager at your financial institution. These gifts are revocable during life.
