Event Details

Hear the first-hand account of R2AK Team Grace B’s adventure to Alaska from team members Earnie Baird and Martin Musson. This event is free and open to the public! Maritime Room East.

About Grace B:

Heavyweight belt in play, expect carbon fiber, Olympic medals, maybe some work on the speed bag just in case it matters. Fast gets faster every year: training, technology, luck and hoo-ra; the thinner the eggshell, the younger the crew, the better the odds.

And then there is Team Grace B. They are rolling classy, slow and heritage on their way to R2AK glory in a boat that was high tech in the 1880s. Grace B was built by one of the legends of the PNW boat-building scene and the captain of the team, Ernie Baird; founder of what is now a cornerstone of the Port Townsend boatbuilding tradition: Haven Boatworks.
