Team building, bilge pumping and persuasion!

Our 4th Thursday in a row with a small craft advisory kept us ashore, but not out of the boats. RAIN has been filling our bilges! Imagine that. We had a bilge pumping party. We love being outside and taking care of our boats.

Our team-building activity this week was “Blindfolded tag.” Trust- building, fun and communication were highlighted with lots of laughter.

We took some time to observe a Lion’s Mane jellyfish (the world’s largest jellyfish species) in the marina and walk out to Point Hudson beach. We enjoyed a windy snack time and some quiet time observing the natural world. Anna shared this quote with us after our moment of silence: “If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.”

We wrapped up the day with environmental project planning. Students gave persuasive speeches to help us choose one project out of 5 different group’s research/ideas. We’ve narrowed it down to the following issues: Pollution from run off, Deforestation and climate change, and Pollution from plastic use. Next week we will focus in on a project that we can rally around as a group to address one of these issues. Dramatic presentations got us all engaged in the process!

Overall, we had a great day of learning and camaraderie. We are hoping for a day out on the water next week! -Captain Nancy
