Volunteer Application

A big thank you to those who volunteered for the 2017 Ruckus! Thanks to you, the Ruckus was a huge success—more people, more conversations with racers, more energy around the Race!

Have a boat and want to help out on the water? Please contact Race Boss Daniel Evans directly at raceboss@racetoalaska.com. Please direct any other questions to our volunteer coordinator Hallie Kopald at volunteer@nwmaritime.org or 360.385.3628 x115.

Step Three: Sign up for Shifts

Volunteer shift signups start at 1PM today. Stay tuned!

Step One: Read Our Helpful Hints

1. All volunteers are required to attend our volunteer orientation on June 1, 2017, 6–8 p.m. If you are unable to attend, please let our volunteer coordinator know by emailing volunteer@nwmaritime.org, and plan on arriving for your shift 30 minutes early to receive any necessary training.

2. We love giving our volunteers free stuff like a Minion t-shirt, but only on a first-come, first-served basis. We try to have enough shirts for everyone, but because we have to order them well before the Ruckus, this isn’t always possible. So how do you make sure you get a t-shirt? Come to the volunteer orientation! Don’t you hate how we did that?

3. Please arrive for your shift 15 minutes early to check in at the volunteer table in the Cotton Building (right next to Pope Marine Park).

4. Have a boat and want to help out on the water? Please contact Race Boss Daniel Evans directly at raceboss@racetoalaska.com. Please direct any other questions to our volunteer coordinator Hallie Kopald at volunteer@nwmaritime.org or 360.385.3628 x115.

Step Two: Complete Our Volunteer Application

If you filled out a volunteer application in 2016 and your t-shirt size hasn’t changed, you can skip the application and just sign the waiver. All volunteers must sign a release waiver each calendar year before taking part in volunteer activities. (I know, a lame way to kick of your awesome generosity, but lawyers love this stuff.)

We are looking for a photographer to capture the Ruckus from 4–8! Party-goers, food carts, volunteers, boats, racers—you name it, we want it photographed (and then sent to us after the event)! If you have awesome photography skills and are interested in this job, please email our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@nwmaritime.org with some samples of your photos.
We need volunteers in Victoria on June 8 and 9 for tying up the boats as they come in on Thursday and working at the racer dinner and party on Friday night.

You Rock. You’re done!

Just add the orientation and your shift(s) to your calendar, brush up on your R2AK knowledge, and please remember to let Hallie know if something comes up and you can’t make it to your shift(s). Volunteer@nwmaritime.org or 360.385.3628 x115.
