Next Steps for Puget Sound, a special presentation by Kathy Fletcher

May 15, 2007

Kathy Fletcher is founder of People For Puget Sound, a citizens’ group established in 1991 to protect and restore the health of Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits through education and action. She was appointed by Gov. Gregoire to serve on the 2006 Puget Sound Partnership. Kathy will share her thoughts on how this past legislative session succeeded in addressing the health of Puget Sound and what it will take to bring the Sound back to health by 2020 in cleanup, pollution prevention, restoration and protection. She will examine what it will take in funding, in citizen involvement, and in political will for the new Puget Sound Partnership to do the job right. Kathy was the founding chair of the Puget Sound Water Quality Authority (now the Puget Sound Action Team), where she served from 1985 to 1990. She is a member and former chair of the Northwest Straits Commission and a member of the executive committee of the Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership. In August 2005, Gov. Gregoire appointed Kathy to serve on the state’s Oil Spill Advisory Council. The free presentation and discussion is co-sponsored by People For Puget Sound, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center, and the Northwest Maritime Center & Wooden Boat Foundation. For more information, please contact: the Port Townsend Marine Science Center at (360) 385-5582 or Al Bergstein, People For Puget Sound, at (360) 344-4112.
