Rob Sanderson

Waterfront Coordinator

Rob is responsible for the planning and implementation of youth and adult on-the-water programs, including Learn-to-Sail, Adventures at Sea, Messing About in Boats, and Seamanship programs. Rob supervises sailing instructors and collaborates with other alliance organizations to effectively present and promote maritime programs in the northwest.

He is a US Sailing Certified Instructor for Small Boat Sailing and is ASA Certified through Bareboat instruction. He has a 100-ton USCG License and is First Aid and CPR trained. Rob taught sailing for several years in Annapolis, Maryland and moved to Port Townsend in 2002. He has had a variety of roles within the maritime world. He worked as 1st mate and engineer on three Tall ships - from Maine to the Caribbean - and drove chase boats for an America’s Cup team. He is passionate about sailing and creating a love for sailing within his students. Rob has a degree in Sociology from Elon University and has crewed, skippered and raced in boats of all sizes.
