About Us

About the Wooden Boat Chandlery, Wooden Boat Foundation & Northwest Maritime Center

The Mission of the Wooden Boat Chandlery is to guarantee sustainability and enhanced capacity of the Northwest Maritime Center by generating earned income, embracing the principles of social entrepreneurship, and managing to a financial, social and environmental bottom line.

The Northwest Maritime Center and Wooden Boat Foundation are committed to carry on and continue to build upon the mission inspired by the first Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend.

Since 1977, this place, the boats and the people have inspired generations to appreciate our wooden boat heritage, our natural environment and seaport, our impressive marine trades, our devoted educators and the values of those who live near to and on the water. The Wooden Boat Festival, our Wooden Boat Chandlery and our maritime programs draw more than 40,000 people annually to our community.

In 1997, we purchased property on the waterfront, at the end of the historic downtown Water Street and at the entrance to the Hudson Point marina, home of the Wooden Boat Festival for 30 years. After an extensive environmental cleanup and award-winning dock restoration, we broke ground for our new facility and expanded Maritime Education Programs in 2008. The Chandler Maritime Education Building is now open to the public. The Maritime Heritage Building also became fully operational in 2010.

Our staff and programs operate year around.
