Every year, the Port Townsend Library sponsors a Community Read during which the entire town gets together to read and discuss the same book. This year the book is The Hungry Ocean by Linda Greenlaw. The Northwest Maritime Center & Wooden Boat Foundation will be hosting two gatherings in conjunction with the Read. One on March 16th, and one on March 17th.
The Port Townsend Education Foundation is holding its second annual "Art With Heart" auction at the Northwest Maritime Center on Saturday February 20th starting at 7:30pm.
Join us and our co-sponsors the PT Marine Science Center for an evening with author Brad Matsen, as he gives a program based on his biography of Jacques Cousteau.

Happy Holidays! The Wooden Boat Chandlery and the Northwest Maritime Center's administrative offices will have reduced holiday hours. The administrative offices will be closed from Thursday, December 24th until Monday, January 4th.

Whether Santa comes by boat or horse drawn carriage, his arrival in Port Townsend always heralds the beginning of a festive holiday season. He arrives this year on Saturday, December 5th and we invite all of you to join us from 11am-4pm in the Northwest Maritime Center's large conference room for a day filled with activities, gifts, and cheer. Stay warm and listen to live local music before heading down for the community caroling and tree lighting. Enjoy free refreshments as our "happy holidays" wish to you.
On Saturday November 21st from 1pm-3pm, The Wooden Boat Chandlery presents a creative ropecraft workshop, How to Tie An Ocean Plat, with instructor Brian Wentzel.
On Thursday evening September 10th, the Northwest Maritime Center's Community Opening was held on Water Street in front of the main staircase of the new facility. After some brief words from the president of the board, the executive director, and the mayor of Port Townsend, a cannon was fired and the doors to the Chandler Maritime Education Building were flung open to welcome the community to our new home.

Course will be held at the new Northwest Maritime Center's Chandler Maritime Education Building on Tuesdays September 29-November 17th, 6:30-9:30.
Cruise the San Juan Islands aboard a historic longboat on August 10-14th and 17-21st. These "FAM Tour" excursions will explore anchorages and waters of the San Juan Islands while aquianting industry leaders with the beneficial outcomes of longboating.
Due to an extended construction schedule, there will be no hard hat tour on Saturday June 13th. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause and expect to be conducting tours again the following weekend.
Our new branding was unveiled Saturday May 30th, at an event dedicating the new Chandler Maritime Education building. As the first of our two new buildings nears completion it seemed appropriate to create a new logo as we prepare for our future.
Public preview tours of the nearly completed Northwest Maritime Center buildings will be available during the Bridge Closure Sunday, May 31 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust has announced a $300,000 grant to the Northwest Maritime Center for new facilities construction. The Trust's mission is to enrich the quality of life in the Pacific Northwest by providing grants to organizations that seek to strengthen the region's educational and cultural base in creative and sustainable ways. The Northwest Maritime Center is building a new, 27,000 square ft. facilities at the east end of Water Street. "We're about 55% complete now," said executive director Stan Cummings. "Siding is going on, dry wall is up in the Heritage Building and the second-floor decks are almost in."
"At first I was really scared about going out on the boats, but now I love it," reports a 6th-grade student from the Kokanee School of Seattle.
